Siri Successfully Ported To iPhone 4 and iPad Without Infringement

Many of the older version iPhone and iPad users who were not able to get their hands on the new phone were disappointed because of the fact that they were not able to use the new personal assistant Siri which came with the new iPhone 4S.

For such users who have previous version of the iPhone and have jailbroken them can make use of this new tool developed by “chpwn” which will  enable iPhone 4 users to run Apple’s personal assistant application, Siri, on their handset. A few days back “chpwn” broke this news on  his blog where he mentions of a tool named “Spire” which enables to port Siri on iPhone 4 without any copyright issues.

Excerpts from chpwn:

Spire is my (along with Ryan Petrich) new tool for installing Siri on previously unsupported, but jailbroken, devices. Spire is a small download, but while installing it will download Siri itself (directly from Apple). However, Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address. Spire uses a new method to obtain the files necessary for Siri, so it doesn’t have the copyright issues encountered by previous attempts. Similarly, rather than directing all traffic through a specific proxy server (and the associated privacy issues), Spire allows you to specify your own proxy server.

iPhone users who want to get their hands on this new tool can acquire it on Cydia. It will take about 100MB so hurry!!

To install Siri on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad follow these simple steps:

iPhone Battery Issues Not Related to Hardware According to Recent Tests

While Apple is doing their best to kill the battery ghost which is haunting the iDevices specifically the iPhone 4 and the newly launched iPhone 4S with their latest release for the iOS updates the iOS 5.0.1 the battery drainage problem still is being reported by many of the users and even the iPad users are now reporting about poor battery life even with the latest iOS 5.0.1 update.

The issue is been in the talking for quite a while now and Apple is doing their best to sort things out, since this one is the second biggest issue after the last years iPhone 4′s Antenna gate fiasco. Now some of the iOS  developers have concluded with their testing that this poor battery issue has nothing to do with the hardware part but just the software as reported earlier by ZDNet.

As one of the developers who tested the battery performance of two iPhone 4S devices and both were running the iOS 5.0.1 OS with one showing poor battery performance while the other one worked perfectly fine. One thing to be noted here that both the devices were having different configurations, while one was for pure app testing purposes the other one was for the day to day usage.

iPhone 3GS selling out in AT&T

A couple of weeks ago iPhone 4S was released and along with that release we saw the newly changed contract plans for the earlier versions of  iPhones the iPhone4 and iPhone 3GS,with the iPhone 3GS made virtually free of cost with a 2 years contract.

“We continue to bring in more subscribers onto our network with pure data plans,” AT&T Mobility Chief Executive Officer Ralph de la Vegasaid. “18 million, or nearly half of our smartphone subscribers, are on tiered plans with most choosing the higher priced data plan.”

So apart from the iPhone 4S sells which are overwhelming with most of the carriers sold out and store sells are going reservations only, even the legacy models like the iPhone 3GS which is now free on contract is doing well last time AT&T checked the 3GS are selling out all over the United States. So the Free on Contract thing is working out quite well even though it’s a 2 generation old version of the iPhone.

The current status of activations on the AT&T network sees almost 56 % of the activations made for all the iPhone’s combined, that is the iPhone4,iPhone3GS and the newly launched iPhone 4S,with over 1 million iPhone4S activations already.
