In past, not many emulator apps have passed the litmus test, which is to get nod of approval from Apple. But, there have been very few emulator apps that have received Apple’s approval, namely Manomio’s Commodore 64 and a select few. More often than not though, these apps seem to appear on the App store, but are also quickly revoked once noticed. The current status of iMAME is not known(whether its approved or not) but its free and available so, I suggest just go ahead and grab it before its too late.

Although a number of emulators exist on the App Store, Apple has always been very restrictive about these open emulators, due to some legalities. iMAME is an application designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software on modern personal computers and other platforms. It comes with nine arcade ROMs to play and you can download your free version here.

Gearing up for the holiday season, Apple has continued its annual tradition when it launched its 12 Days of Christmas app in preparation for its annual holiday promotion offering free songs, music videos, apps and books to residents of parts of Europe and Canada.

The 12 Days of Christmas offers are not available to U.S.-based customers, however, the app is available in the U.K. App Store and is reported to be on its way to the Canada App Store soon. A few select countries in Europe are also scheduled to participate in the promotion.

The 12 days will be from Dec. 26 to Jan. 6, with new gifts available each day. Apple has made it an yearly affair for several years now.

Gifts from last year’s 12 Days of Christmas deals in Canada included “some episodes of The Big Bang Theory, a Christmas music sampler EP, a best-selling book by a Canadian author, some episodes of Mad Men, an iTunes Live EP from Bedouin Soundclash, music videos and songs from Kings of Leon and Johnny Reid, the movie One Week and two apps, Diner Dash and Fishing Kings,” MacNN notes.

People who are ineligible for the 12 Days promotion need not be sad because, they have been invited to visit the iTunes page on Apple’s website on Boxing Day (Dec. 26) to receive a special gift for their computers.

This means that all of your purchased apps can be viewed and downloaded from the App Store at any time.

If having a list of your past app purchases is not what you really want then, you can hide specific app store purchases by following simple steps mentioned below:

On the iPhone, navigate to the “Updates” section of the App Store app and tap on the “Purchased” menu. You will then see a list of previously purchased apps categorized into “All” and “Not On This iPhone.”

Swipe with your finger on each app to bring up the option to hide that purchase. Tap “Hide” and the desired app will be erased from your purchase history. The same option can be used in the “Purchased” section of the App Store on the iPad.

Transferring applications from one Mac to another has been made very simple with the introduction of the Mac App Store and can be done entirely through the App Store itself. This is due to the Mac App Stores licensing agreement, which allows you to download and install Mac OS X apps on all of your personal machines, although they must all share the same Apple ID. Also, you can transfer apps manually over a network or with an external USB drive, but that method does not work with all apps and hence is not entirely recommended.

iPhone already has a plethora of some awesome Racing based games. Some of my favorites included GTS World Racing, Asphalt 4, Speedburst and a few others. But I’d always been waiting for the Need for Speed (NFS) Series to get ported over to the iPhone ever since EA took keen interest in developing iPhone/iPod Touch applications.

Well finally the wait is over and EA has just released its latest iteration of the NFS series – NFS Undercover for the iPhone !

Here’s how the Tagline goes :

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? Get behind the wheel of the world’s #1 racing franchise to find out! Explode into a racing frenzy on your iPhone and iPod touch in this action packed adventure of hot pursuit and betrayal.

IGN.com’s Levi Buchchan says :

“Not only is the game extremely fast, especially when you tap the on-screen NOS button, but the graphics outstrip anything that your’ve seen on the iPhone thus far.”

This comment might be enough (apart from this being from the NFS Series) for you to purchase this game right away !

NFS Undercover for iPhone is available right now in the App Store for $9.99 and is 92.3 MB big.

[AppStore Link]

Just today I downloaded a new application called Writing Pad for the iPhone. Whats special about this Application was that the unique technique one could use to Input Text.

It uses an absolutely unique and innovative technique to enter text. What it does is that it enables you to enter text into the iPhone by tracing word shapes rather than typing letters.

All you have to do is move over the letter of the word you want to type making a contact point on each letter, Writing Pad accurately captures it and also shows you other possible suggestions !

Other features include the regular option to EMail the text and Auto Saving feature.

Official Method

The iPhone 4 now supports Wireless Tethering with the latest firmware update.

To enable Tethering Officially on the iPhone 4 follow these steps:

1. Open Settings

2. Select Personal Hotspot

Unofficial Method (Requires Jailbreak) For those on iPhone 2G/3G/3GS

1. Open Cydia

2. Goto Search and search for “MyWi”

3. Download and Install MyWi.

4. Open MyWi and the rest options are pretty self explanatory.

===============================================================

Old Method

The iPhone surely lacks some basic features but 3rd Party Developers have made sure that those flaws and drawbacks are fixed using 3rd Party Applications. Earlier you needed to Jailbreak and use Installer.app to run these, but now with the App Store, Apple has officially opened up the iPhone.

One such application released recently is the NetShare Application ! This application allows you to use your EDGE/3G Data Network and route in a way which shares your iPhones Net connection to your PC via a Socks5 Proxy Server !

This Application is currently Paid and costs 10$ ! I personally don’t think its worth that much as I’ve been using this feature for free for over an year now via the following method by cre.ations.net !

Anyhow I’ll explain in Brief how to use this for your Windows based PC.

On iPhone :

1. Download the NetShare Application from the AppStore.
2. In your iPhone go to Settings > Wifi > Choose your Network and Select “Static” ! Note the IP Address here.
3. Delete the DNS values
4. Now open NetShare Application and it should show the same IP that you noted down before.

On PC :

1. Open up Firefox > Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Click on Settings
2. Choose the Manual Proxy Configuration > In the Socks Host enter the IP Address shown in the Net Share application and also enter the Port shown in Netshare here.
3. Make sure you select Socks5
4. Click Ok and your Done and should be able to browse any sites !

For other Applications like Yahoo Messenger follow the same. Yahoo too has Proxy Settings so use the same details there.

Now enjoy 3G Speeds on your Laptop/PC !

Download Net Share from: Click Here
Password : This Sites Address
