[How to] Transfer Apps Between Macs

Transferring applications from one Mac to another has been made very simple with the introduction of the Mac App Store and can be done entirely through the App Store itself. This is due to the Mac App Stores licensing agreement, which allows you to download and install Mac OS X apps on all of your personal machines, although they must all share the same Apple ID. Also, you can transfer apps manually over a network or with an external USB drive, but that method does not work with all apps and hence is not entirely recommended.

[How to] Unlock A Password Protected iPad 2 With Magnet Or Smart Cover

In today’s world where such emphasis is laid upon security, be it a corporate firm or an individual, all are very much aware of what all things can happen if their private information somehow reaches in the hands of wrong people. Here we will see how the iPad2 users need to be careful of because of a security flaw that has emerged in iOS5.

The security flaw is  such that, anyone with a Smart Cover or magnet can break into your “password-protected” iPad 2′s locked passcode screen and access whatever app was previously left open. The person who unlocks your iPad 2 will not have complete access to your iPad, but will be able to gain access to whatever you locked your iPad 2 on. If your iPad 2 was previously in Mail, Safari, Messages, Contacts, or Maps, then you can imagine the sorts of personal information that can be viewed on your iPad and what other consequences you will face. If you left your iPad 2 on its home screen, the person can view which applications you have on your device, control media from the multitasking bar, but not much else.

From a locked iPad 2:

  • Hold down the power button until the the slider appears across the top
  • Close the iPad 2′s Smart Cover or swing a magnet over the magnetic points around the screen rim, then remove the Smart cover or magnet
  • Click “Cancel” at the bottom of the lock screen

The passcode bypass was discovered by 9to5mac, who recorded a video demonstrating the security flaw:
