A lot of Mac users have the tendency to of immediately putting their MacBook Air to sleep by shutting the lid, since it is easiest method when you are on the go. Normally this would work without any trouble.However, sometimes  the MacBook Air may not sleep when its lid is shut. As the MacBook Air has no moving hard drive or sleep light, it may not come to your notice immediately and you may feel that Mac is sleeping when actually its not. And you may loose on the valuable battery by the time you realize. If you own an iMac you’d probably be aware that you just cannot manually turn off just the display cause there’s no hardware button to turn the display off.

Now you can put your screen to sleep by the use of  Hot Corners. You can setup hot corners in the mission control on the Mac OS X Lion and they can be activated just by sliding cursor into the specified corners of the screen.

Mac OS X has thousands of apps available but as we all know being the leader in worldwide PC market share, Windows has the largest application base as compared to Mac OS X and not all the apps which run on Windows platform run seamlessly on OSX.

So till now we either used Bootcamp for Windows or try other types of virtualization software like Parallels or VMWare to run Windows based application on Mac OS X.

Not anymore! Nirmal Balachandran a fellow MVP recently reported about a great software which allows us to run Windows applications on Mac OSX. WinOnX App allows us to use Windows based apps on our Mac OSX environment, it is based on the popular Wine open source project which is well known for running Windows apps on open source operating systems like Linux.

With the launch of iCloud and the “Find My iPhone” feature, you can now send messages to your Apple device. The messages appear in the form of a pop-up window in Mac OS X and a notification in iOS 5. You can also choose to play a pinging sound with the notification, it will repeatedly play at full volume until someone acknowledges the notification, assuring that it won’t be ignored.

You’ll need to have iCloud enabled and have iOS 5 or its new updates on the iPad or iPhone, and OS X 10.7.2 or newer updates on the Mac, and all hardware must be sharing the same iCloud ID.

A hidden Panorama mode in iOS 5 has been discovered by @conradev. A panoramic mode will allow you to take multiple pictures of a wide landscape and stitch them together to get a super wide panorama view!

There’s no reason why Apple choose to disable this feature by default, but with a jailbreak-ed iPhone there’s always a way to enable back those stuffs.

A Cydia hack called “FireBreak” will enable this setting in the Camera App and allow you to take breathtaking panoramic photos.

FireBreak is now available on Cydia.

The AutoCorrect feature has been a long time time saver for messaging addicts on phones. iOS came with a slick and intelligent AutoCorrect feature. Apple decided to implement it in Lion, even to the point of keeping it enabled by default.

No doubt that AutoCorrect is a beneficial feature but for many users whose native language isn’t English this could pose a major problem.

There’s a way to disable autocorrect but its not straight forward and is hidden deep within System Preferences.

Now you can view photos of your favorite places on your iPhone and 3G-equipped iPad with the use of a new feature named “Places”. This  new feature in the Photos app allows you to see pictures based on geographical location.

From the iOS homescreen:

• Tap on “Photos”, then at the bottom of the Camera Roll tap onto “Places”
• Scroll and zoom on the Google Map to show pins for specific regions tagged with photos
• Tap a red pin to see a photo count exclusive to that place, then tap the blue > arrow to see camera roll only for that location

If you use Mac OS X Mail to check your MobileMe email, the contents of your Junk folder may not match unless you choose the right settings. By default, Mac OS X Mail stores junk messages locally, whereas MobileMe Mail stores messages on an IMAP server.

Hence, in order to experience a consistent behaviour between MobileMe Mail and Mac OS X Mail, you need to make sure that your  Mac OS X Mail preferences are configured in the following manner:

• Open Mail on your Mac.
• Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
• Click Junk Mail.
• Make sure “Enable junk mail filtering” is selected.
• Also, enable the option to “Move it to the Junk mailbox”  located under “When junk mail arrives.”
• Click the Accounts tab.
• Select your MobileMe account.
• Click the Mailbox Behaviors tab.
• Make sure “Store junk messages on the server” is enabled.

You can also enter the same settings on other Macs from which you use Mac OS X Mail to access your MobileMe email.With these settings, all messages marked as junk will be placed into the same folder on the MobileMe server. Whenever you visit your Junk folder and remove messages, they’ll be removed permanently.

A couple of days back we broke the news to you about a certain battery problem for an iPhone 4S user. The problem appears to be affecting some iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users as well, indicating a likely software bug rather than a hardware defect.People at iDownloadBlog seemed to have worked out a solution that may not work for everybody, even though some folks are reporting seeing an improved battery performance.

It appears that the ‘Setting Time Zone’ function in iOS 5 can lead to excess power drain because the device is repeatedly polling the user’s location in order to set the time zone based on their current location (which is useful when traveling).
