Clear for Mac Released

Clear, a highly popular Task management app for  the iPhone has been released for the Mac as well.

Clear gained a lot of positive reviews because of its unique gesture based interface with nice subtle animations.

Clear for Mac will keep your lists in sync via iCloud. Thus your lists will be available on your iPhone, iPad or Mac! The Mac version will also support multitasking gestures along with new feature such as multiple windows.

Download Tweetbot for Mac (Public Alpha)

Tweetbot is by far the most appreciated and publicly loved Twitter client out there. Tweetbot is currently available only for the iPhone and iPad.

Talks about a Mac version being in development have been around for quite a while now.

Tapbots, the people behind Tweetbot have just released an alpha version for public testing. So there might be some bugs here and there.

Changelog: 

● Notifications for mentions, follows, retweets, favorites (10.8 only)
● Go to User (command-u)
● Option to open links in background (see preferences)
● Less intrusive tweet action overlay icons
● Double-click tweets in timeline now takes you to status detail
● Fixed some contextual menu issues in direct message conversations
● Fixed pull-to-refresh and scrolling to top issue when loading new results
● Tweetmarker will now set your timeline position on app startup always
● Fixed bugs and crashers related to composing tweets.
● Made large and huge fonts bigger
● Can swipe the empty space in a conversation to go back to previous view
● Can close image window with command-w (also space and esc)
● Menu shortcuts added to profile view: Command-d (direct message) and command-r (reply)

From my testing, I can say that its pretty stable for daily use. Everything feels smooth enough.

Mac App Store Downloads Reach 100 Million Mark

Today Apple announced in a press release that, over 100 million apps have been downloaded from the Mac App Store in less than one year. With thousands of free and paid apps, the Mac App Store brings the App Store experience to the Mac so you can find great new apps, buy them using your iTunes  account, and download and install them in just one step.

Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller said,

“In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry.With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world.”

The Mac App Store offers thousands of apps in Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity, Utilities and other categories. Users can browse new and noteworthy apps, find out what’s hot, see staff favorites, search categories and look up top charts for paid and free apps, as well as user ratings and reviews. The Mac App Store is included with Mac OS  X Lion and is available as a software update for any Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Safari 5.1.2 Released, Fixes Memory Leaks, Improves Stability

Apple has released version 5.1.2 of Safari, now available in a Software Update near you. The new version, according to the notes, increases stability, fixes a few issues that could cause hangs and memory leaks, and fixes an issue that would allow web page to flash to white. No more more freaky strobes when loading up a new URL, hopefully.

The patch also allows web pages to show PDF content right inline with the rest of their web material, which is a nice option for programmers who need to show content that way.  Safari 5.1.2 is a 40.2 MB update, and does require a restart.

VMWare Fusion 4.1 Enables Virtualization of Leopard And Snow Leopard

Recently, VMware released an update to its popular virtualization software that adds many improvements. It’s called Fusion 4.1 T and it is promised to get rid of any bugs. Although, the biggest improvement is the applications ability to run older versions of Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard.It has been  known for a long time that Fusion can support Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard virtual machines, but Apple’s licensing prohibits this.

Now, Apple has altered the Mac OS X licensing terms with the release of Mac OS X Lion. The new software license allows users to install and use virtual machines running the client or server version of Lion on their Mac.  But, it doesn’t mention anything about older versions of Mac OS X , hence its assumed that its prohibited.

[How to] Run Windows Applications on Mac using WinOnX

Mac OS X has thousands of apps available but as we all know being the leader in worldwide PC market share, Windows has the largest application base as compared to Mac OS X and not all the apps which run on Windows platform run seamlessly on OSX.

So till now we either used Bootcamp for Windows or try other types of virtualization software like Parallels or VMWare to run Windows based application on Mac OS X.
