iPhones, iPads, and other mobile devices continue to increase in popularity, driven in no small part by the thousands of games and apps available for them. Fans of gambling games have had plenty to enjoy from the release of the first iPhone, as Apple Texas Hold’em was one of the very first apps developed and distributed for the iPhone. Mobile phone gambling is one of the fastest growing niches of mobile gaming, with not only plenty of great apps to choose from but even more in the pipeline and on the way.

Most gambling apps fall into one of two broad categories: one that let you play for free or play chips or apps that let you wager for real money. While there are a few apps that let you play for real money, the vast majority are for amusement purposes only, or to learn the rules for various casino games or how to count cards at blackjack. Both Apple and Google has been highly restrictive when it comes to approving apps for gambling for real money, so most of the free and premium apps you find will only let you compete for play money.

For the first time, users can play actual games which earlier can only be played on PC or Macs, on a relatively low power device such as a tablet or smartphone. Apple Offers Monthly Subscription based Model for Streaming Unlimited Games

For the first time, Apple will offer video game publishers to give their games to iPad users via a subscription model, a revenue and purchasing model previously available only to digital publications. Bloomberg reports:

Big Fish Games, a Seattle-based game publisher, won approval from Apple to become the first to offer users access to dozens of titles for $6.99 a month. Until now, games have only been available one at a time, requiring users to download individual applications.

Apparently, a user who gets hold of a Big Fish Games subscription will be able to play unlimited games that the publisher makes available through a dedicated app. The only issue is, Games will be streamed to users iPad from Big Fish’s data centers, requiring the user to have Wi-Fi access to play. As always, Apple will still collect a 30% cut of revenues.

When it comes to the process of Big Fish convincing Apple of the model, the company’s founder Paul Thelen had this to say:

“It took longer than usual to be approved… they needed to be convinced there’s a reason to charge customers every month.”
