On Wednesday, Apple revealed a new update to its iBooks iOS app, with new features like night-time reading theme, full-screen layout, new fonts and an improved annotation palette. iBooks is an amazing way to download and read books.

iBooks includes the iBookstore, where you can download the latest best-selling books or your favorite classics – day or night.

Browse your library on a beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or a tap, and bookmark or add notes to your favorite passages.

According to Apple, the new update includes stability and performance improvements, and boasts the following features:

Apple has released version 5.1.2 of Safari, now available in a Software Update near you. The new version, according to the notes, increases stability, fixes a few issues that could cause hangs and memory leaks, and fixes an issue that would allow web page to flash to white. No more more freaky strobes when loading up a new URL, hopefully.

The patch also allows web pages to show PDF content right inline with the rest of their web material, which is a nice option for programmers who need to show content that way.  Safari 5.1.2 is a 40.2 MB update, and does require a restart.

A $15 app by the name of “iTether” lets you have unlimited tethering from your iPhone’s 3G connection to your Mac or Windows computer.

From the App Store description:

We had previously reported about Apple seeding Beta builds of iOS 5.0.1 which had fixes for the dreaded battery drain issue that many iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S uses were facing.

Apple has finally made available the 5.0.1 update to general public.

Firefox 8

Mozilla has been working real hard, pushing new Firefox releases every month. Mozilla just launched the latest version of Firefox – Firefox 8.

Firefox 8 comes with Twitter search integration, improved HTML5 support and better extension/plugin security. Unfortunately it still doesn’t support OS X Lion’s full screen functionality.

To the delight of iDevice users, Sn0wbreeze 2.8 build10 has just been released to jailbreak iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 (Beta 1 and Beta 2) on Windows. Since the current version of Redsn0w, version 0.9.9b8 for Windows and Mac, can already jailbreak the above mentioned iOS updates, the added advantage of Sn0wbreeze is that it fixes iBooks crashing issue on devices running jailbroken iOS 5.0.x.

Also, Sn0wbreeze removes the UDID requirement for iOS 5.0.1 betas. This gives an added advantage to non-developers, who can now install iOS 5.0.1 without having to have a registered account on iOS Dev Center.
