iPhones, iPads, and other mobile devices continue to increase in popularity, driven in no small part by the thousands of games and apps available for them. Fans of gambling games have had plenty to enjoy from the release of the first iPhone, as Apple Texas Hold’em was one of the very first apps developed and distributed for the iPhone. Mobile phone gambling is one of the fastest growing niches of mobile gaming, with not only plenty of great apps to choose from but even more in the pipeline and on the way.
Most gambling apps fall into one of two broad categories: one that let you play for free or play chips or apps that let you wager for real money. While there are a few apps that let you play for real money, the vast majority are for amusement purposes only, or to learn the rules for various casino games or how to count cards at blackjack. Both Apple and Google has been highly restrictive when it comes to approving apps for gambling for real money, so most of the free and premium apps you find will only let you compete for play money.
If you’re determined to play for real money, there are some apps from online internet casinos and gambling sites such as BWIN that let you bet on sports or play poker. Several restrictions apply, though, as you’ll have to be located in a country that allows online gambling (which sadly currently rules out US citizens) and your options will be more limited than if you play on a desktop or a laptop using the normal software client, as most mobile gambling apps just let you play one poker table at a time and limit the stakes and wagers you can gamble at.
As far as some of the most popular of those apps, Zynga Poker is the most popular choice when it comes to poker apps, with millions of players taking to the virtual poker tables from around the world. Zynga Poker offers a very similar layout to what you’ll find at online poker tables and is also tightly integrated with Facebook, making it easy to set up a weekly poker game with family and friends. Other popular poker apps include Apple Texas Hold’em and Live Holdem Poker Pro, while casino fans can give Payday Roulette and Blackjack Free a spin.
