Apple is well known for filing patents after patents for latest innovations in the tech world mostly for their iDevices the iPhones the iPads and the iPod Touches and also for the latest suing fiasco against Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Now to add one more to that Apple has bagged yet another patent for Slide-To-Unlock Gesture that is “Unlocking a device by performing gestures on an unlock image” courtesy US Patent and Trademark Office .The patent was filed in 2009 invented by Chaudhri Imran (San Francisco, CA), Ording Bas (San Francisco, CA), Anzures Freddy Allen (San Francisco, CA), Van Os Marcel (San Francisco, CA), Lemay Stephen O. (San Francisco, CA), Forstall Scott (Mountain View, CA), Christie Greg (San Jose, CA).
The patent Abscract reads,
A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images with respect to which the predefined gesture is to be performed in order to unlock the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.
After this patent in the bag it would be interesting to see if apple gets into action right away against its competitors with similar products like the android based tablets or the smartphones from Android or even Windows Phone for that matter.
