iPhone SSH via USB using WinSCP
Transferring Files overs SSH, managing File Permissions and Executing Commands via Putty till now was only possible if you had a Wifi Router. Many people who didn’t have any Wifi Router couldn’t install or use many 3rd Party Unofficial Applications.
Follow this Simple Guide on connecting to iPhone via SSH using WinSCP !
Requirements :
- iPhone with OpenSSH Installed (install this via Cydia)To install OpenSSH on iPhone:
1. Open Cydia
2. Goto Search > Search for “OpenSSH”
3. Install it and reboot your iPhone. - iPhone Tunnel Suite : Click Here (17mb) Contains WinSCP-Putty and other softwares bundled.
Things you need to do :
1. Connect iPhone to PC via USB. (Make sure iTunes recognizes it)
2. Open iUSB Tunnel which you downloaded.
3. Now Click on iTunnel under SSH and a Launcher will open up.
4. Leave the Launcher (command prompt) window open.
5. Open WinSCP now. And enter Details as :
IP Address: 127.0.0.1
User: root
Pass: alpine
Protocols as SCP.
6. Click Connect and you’ll be shown the iPhone’s Root System !

Alternate Program

Download iTunnel.zip (600 Kb) file and Extract it.
1. Connect your iPhone via USB Cable to your PC.
2. Go to the folder where you extracted iTunnel.zip and open the file “start_ssh_tunnel.cmd” Keep it running in the background.
3. Open WinSCP
4. Enter Details as :
IP Address: 127.0.0.1
User: root
Pass: alpine
Protocols as SCP (if SCP doesn’t work use SFTP)
5. Click connect and you’ll be shown the iPhone File System.
Note: Updated the post (May 16 2011) with new softwares. Although I haven’t tried them myself, they should work.

My firends recommend your site but I still cannot reconnect.
I have Iphone 16G, Firmware 2.0.1, Jailbreak with Cydia and Installer
my computer is Windows XP
I installed Open SSH.
The reason why I want to connect the Iphone via WINSCP is
Normal process of T-zone hacking to my iphone is not working….
I tried to install T-zone hack in Cydia
I have T-mobile and T-mobileweb (T-zone)
APN is vap.voicestream.com ( this is automatic when you installed T-zone hack
BossPrefs is installed.
In short I’ve done everything except for proxy.pac and
preferences.plist…
Still my iphone cannot ccess the internet using safari.
I still cannot connect it.

i’ve followed the instructions but when i close i do not see the applications that i transferred. Where do i go from here? How do i make the apps appear?

@Shawn : Are the applications in a folder format ? Ex. Applicationname.app format ? It should show up after a Respring or Reboot.
But the best way is to install Applications using iTunes via the IPA method.

I am unable to connect to mine. I get “Network Error: Connection refused” I can however ssh in through putty if I’m on a wifi connection. Not through usb though.

For those who get an error, with a “Could not load pairing record” in their Laucher window (<- the command prompt you need to leave open), just do the following :
COPY THIS FOLDER :
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple\Lockdown
AND PASTE IT IN THERE (replace USERNAME) :
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\

The iTunnel Suite no longer supports iTunes 9 version. So sorry this guide won’t be of any help any more. I’ll try to find another solution and update this post.

I had gone through many forums and finally made it works! I had patched all the necessary files so for those who are still having problem with the connection you can download the tool from http://www.superiblog.com/?p=255. Tested on XP and Win 7 with no issue.

The tool I just posted does not care what version of iTunes you are using, For me I’m using 9.2 and managed to connect easily.
